About the Event
Celebrating over a century of Southport's Motoring and Motor Sport Heritage!
Southport was a leader in both the very early years of motor vehicle manufacturing, with no less than 24 companies based in the town from the very beginning of the motor industry as well as a pioneer in hosting large scale public motor racing events, starting with The Southport Speed Trials, held along the Promenade, in 1903, which were attended by thousands of visitors to the Town.
The 7 mile strech of flat sands between Ainsdale and Southport was extensively used for numerous racing and speed trials including the famous World Land Speed Record set in 1926 by Sir Henry Segrave.
